Vaango, Sector 18, Noida - Must try!

[Rated: 4/5]

South Indian cuisine is the only cuisine that has acceptance and popularity in all parts of India and is equally liked by all segments of customers. It probably is also the only cuisine that could satisfy palate from breakfast to dinner. For a larger population while south Indian may just mean Dosa, Idli or Wada, the fact is that there are joints that are serving a much larger variety both vegetarian and non vegetarian food from south.

The other day while I was at Sector 18, Noida, my attention was drawn towards this Green and Yellow glow sign “Vaango” the south Indian food joint. Motivated by my experimental instinct, I decided to try out this new joint.

I was welcomed by the poster at the door stating meaning of Vaango and claiming that one will be extended with legendry hospitality along with authentic south Indian cuisine.
It appeared to be a self service joint to me and I went straight to the counter to order food. I requested for Appams with stew (Rs 95) and a Rice Idli (Rs 60). Only post the order that I got to know that they take orders at table as well. While waiting for food, I admired the soft yet lively green and yellow interiors. A 40” LCD placed besides the entrance caught my attention. The same is not used to telecast any show/movie, but to collect feedback from customers and to let them click their photographs and share with friends on Face Book. The camera was installed at an angle that covered complete restaurant in background. It was exciting to see such marketing innovation being introduced by this new South Indian chain.

The food was served and with the very first bite I got convinced that the food shall be loved by Delhiites.  While the Idlis were as soft as they could be and the sambhar tasted very nice, the Appam with Stew stole the show. Coconut milk based gravy of stew had chunks of carrot, french beans, cauliflower and onion. The sweet taste of stew got enhanced with mild use of whole clove and black pepper in preparation. The Appams were soft and gelled well with stew.

After having enjoyed the meal, I requested for a filter coffee and can say for sure that it was one of the best filter coffees I have had in North.

It was a true value for money since not only did it satisfy my taste buds, the ambience was exciting and service was delightful.

This place has recently opened in Gurgaon as well.
I saw it on the Golf Course Road... right next to the newly opened KFC..
