Tab01, Cyber Greens, Gurgaon

[Rated: 3.5/5]

A man is known by the company he keeps and a Pub by its poison. Tab01 (pronounced Tab-O-One) is the newest pub in Gurgaon, and I am happy to report it has researched its poisons well.

The 55-seater bar extends into a 65-seater restaurant, and can easily accommodate 300 party animals with some standing, sitting, and a few shaking their legs. The snow white leather interiors look good and complement the deep, rich wooden furniture. I liked their selection of music too.

The pub proudly shows off its collection of exclusive Malts, Blends, Liqueurs, Wines, Vodkas, & Beers. I was pleasantly surprised to see Absinthe a highly alcoholic spirit derived from herbs that isn’t usually a part of most pub menus in the city. I enjoyed my Hapsburg Green Absinthe (Rs 425) which was served the Bohemian way (Sugar cube dipped in Absinthe fired up and taken as a shot with the help of straw). The LIIT (Rs 400) was potent as it should be, and I liked the pub’s owner and partner, Amarjit’s version of Cognac (Rs 395) that was served with honey and lukewarm water, which otherwise I always drink neat. The winter was in its full element when I visited, and a drink or two of Cognac felt good.

I find the quality of beer in micro-breweries of Gurgaon to be erratic and would look no further to get my favorite beer like Hoegaarden and Stella off of the tap. The Smirnoff at Rs 200, and 100 Pipers at Rs 225 are competitively priced, which gives even more value at the happy hours (4pm-8pm) on IMFL. The Hoegaarden beer however, I found to be expensive at Rs 510 for 500ml. It isn’t available during happy hours too BTW.

The food wasn’t bad but the portion size of most starters was too small to justify their prices. I liked the Boneless Buffalo Wings (275) done in barbeque sauce, and the Fish Tikka (525). The Fish Tikka was so juicy and well-cooked that I happily forgave the pub for having run out of Nachos. The Veg Salt & Pepper (180) and Subz Seekh Kebab (Rs 240) were prepared well, though I couldn’t help but notice the lack of garlic flavor in Lahsooni Jhinga (800). The Pudina Paneer Tikka (Rs 240) was cold by the time it was served and could not be enjoyed. The service was attentive but delivery was slow. The pub will have a tough time if it cannot quickly serve its guests with something to munch along with drinks. If you visit Tab01, do not miss their Dal Makhani (Rs 220) which I immensely liked.

Tab01 is a promising new pub in Gurgaon which deserves a visit for a drink or two. They would do well to improve their food and delivery time to complement the well-stocked bar.
