NE7, Lajpat Nagar, Delhi - Authentic meal with honest price

[Rated: 3/5]

North East cuisine restaurants in Delhi seem to be much in demand. Many new restaurants have opened up, and recently NE-7 reopened in Lajpat Nagar. Gautam and I visited the restaurant to check the offerings.
The ambienceat NE7  is nothing much to speak about. Décor is minimal and with no air-conditioning, some may feel uneasy but the food soon made us enjoy our lunch. We ordered for Maasor Tenga (Fish Curry, Rs 120) which came with four big pieces, Khaar (Rs 25), Steamed Rice (Rs 40),
Chicken Thaali (Rs 120) and Pork Fry (Rs 110). Pork was was one of the best I have had recently, and we also enjoyed the Khaar and Masoor Tenga. Though Masoor Tenga could have been better if the tomatoes were grated as the tomato skin floating on the curry did not make for a pleasant sight. Potato Pitika served in the Chicken Thaali was slightly dry but overall it was a great value for money.

Chicken Thaali - Rice, Daal, Potol-Aloo torkari, Khaar, Kolmu Xaak, Aloo Pitika
Laao-Tinhoo(Lauki Kheera) Khaar
Maasor Tenga
We found the service to be slightly slow as all dishes are made fresh, but we would love to go back for an authentic meal.

NE-7 is the best place for North-Eastern food I've ever been to so far. It even beats the Nagaland stall at Dilli Haat in price, taste and quantity. Their Pork Raja Mircha, Pork Dry Fry and several dishes are to die for. When I was in Delhi, once a week I used to get 5-6 dishes packed from NE-7, bring them home, and my dinner was taken care of for the next 3-4 days. Unfortunately, they closed down due to unknown reasons just before I left (May 2011).
