My Way Or The Highway, Sector 18, Noida

[Rated: 4/5]

I just couldn't stop smiling when one of my friends jokingly remarked on hearing the name - My Way or The Highway, “ Is the place owned by a female”. The arrogant sounding name “My Way Or The Highway” is contrary to its name and brings interesting twist to the normal recipes in its menu and offers personalised and courteous service.

Located on the fourth floor of Centre Stage Mall, vibrant interiors of this 85 plus seater restaurant are spread over two levels with a well equipped bar at first level and a hookah lounge on the upper level. Relaxed seating, pleasant interiors and the not-so-loud setting makes it an apt venue for not-so young who avoids a volume screeching pub, but still are young enough to enjoy their drinks and food in a group or otherwise.

On a lazy Saturday afternoon, nothing could have been better than to going for some cocktails. We settled for Sangria (450), a Green Apple Caprioushka (425) and a Green Apple Margarita (495). Our start was disappointing; Taste of Red Wine got subdued with overuse of Dark Rum in Sangria. Classic Spanish Sangria is a cocktail of Red wine with a portion of brandy, and mixed with citrus juices of Lemon and Orange. The extra use of stronger alcohol like Rum or Vodka can impact the taste. Post this aberration, we were in for a good time. Caprioushka and Margarita were excellent. Rather after tasting Caprioshka my friend looked no further and settled on it as a drink for the entire session. Mocktails like 'Spicy Guava' (175) and 'My way Special' were also interesting, but for someone like us, cocktails did well to lighten up the afternoon.

Our starters had a blend of Mediterranean and Indian dishes. Cold Mezze Platter (Rs 295) was served on a long plate with four varieties and each of the items tasted distinctly. Infact I had such good Hummus and Mutabbal after a very long time.(Both these are highly popular dishes in middle east and mediterranean countries. Hummus is made out of chick peas and moutabbal is made out of egg plant). Hot Mezze Platter (Rs 350) consisted of Chicken Wings, Lamb Sambousek and Mutton Kibbeh. Mutton Kibbeh is a deep fried kebab cooked with a mix of wheat, onion and nuts which was authentic and cooked to perfection. The variety of starters had Mozzarella stuffed Risotto Balls, Cheesy stuffed Baby Potatoes, Pesto Chicken Strips, Chicken Olive Rolls, Bacon wrapped Chicken Batons (Rs 295), Lebanese Chicken Wings, Bannu Kebab (Rs 325), Malai Tikka and Murg Daraanpur (Rs 325). Each of the dishes were better than the other and the Mediterranean food was undoubtedly one of the best in NCR.

Almost full with the starters and drinks we ordered for Bhuna Murg Masala (Rs 325) and Laal Maans (Rs 375) accompanied with Laal Mirchi Roti, Hari Mirchi Roti and Garlic Naan. Bhuna Murg Masala was succulent and nice with thick gravy; however the Laal Maans was somehow not as we would have expected it to be. The chilly gravy tasted more on line of a Chinese paste than the authentic gravy of this signature dish from Rajasthan. The minced meat balls were used in the dish unlike the original recipe, but then the restaurant name already suggests that dishes would be presented with a twist. The portions weren't huge and in case the guest is not ordering starters then an additional dish might be required.

Now was the time to satisfy our sweet tooth and we asked for a Molten Chocolate, Brownie Sundae and Creamy Chocolate Mousse and all three were admittedly nice. Chocolate Mousse is not-to-be-missed, and Sundae though not bad could have been more nutty and flavorful. But at the prices it was served, I couldn't complain much.

While we enjoyed the food, I was slightly uncomfortable sitting on the corner seat with an 'oval' table, which made me lean a little more than required to pick up my food.

With good interiors, refereshing drinks, quality food topped up with excellent service, the overall experience was quite satisfying and would like to visit again some time.
