Hotel Mohan, Ashok Vihar, Delhi

[Rated: 3/5]

Two of my school time friends (Ashish and Ankur) decided to catch up and have a good time. We zeroed in on Hotel Mohan, one of the oldest restaurants in Ashok Vihar area of north West Delhi. The restro bar was large and appeared enough to accommodate nearly 40 to 50 people. The joint was rather dimly lit but was buzzing with energy. Unlike some of the other restro bars I have visited in south Delhi and Gurgaon, this was an all male affair. An IPL game between
MI and KTK was being displayed on a wall size screen. We found our table and I could notice stains left on table despite it being cleaned, probably because of dim lights even the cleaner missed few spots. So we had to ask for another round of cleaning. Such dim atmosphere while accentuates the environment to enjoy a nice drink, can lead to unintended cleanliness problems, which are best avoided.

We ordered our beers - Budweisers (Rs.135 each) and Hayward 5000 (Rs.115). Along with it we asked for starters – Plain salted peanuts (Rs.55), Mushroom Tikka Masala (Rs.165) and Chinese Mix Vegetables (Rs.165). Yes, I was stuck between two pure vegetarians!!! Nevertheless, the ambience was relaxing and we started enjoying our evening along with the match at display. Our beer and peanuts arrived quickly but had to wait nearly 15 minutes for our starters to arrive. The Mushroom Tikka came on a sizzling platter which surprised us. It was moist and nicely spiced, complimented well by our cold beer. Time flew while we chatted away enjoying our food and match. While we felt nice and comforted, we decided to satiate our palate with a light meal to end our evening. So we ordered Dal Makhni (Rs.135) along with some Butter Naan (Rs.55) and Tandoori roti (Rs.35). I must admit, that after long time, I enjoyed my Dal Makhani. It was smooth, warm, delicious and went extremely well with butter naan that was again made to perfection being light, flaky and tasty. Although, none of the waiters came proactively to serve us either the starters or daal, they attended to us promptly when called for.

We enjoyed our food and fantastic run chase by KTK to beat MI. Though most of the devotees of God, that is Sachin Tendulkar, were sad but they quickly forgot about it and went back to having good time with friends. Our bill arrived and totaled to Rs.1750, that’s Rs.600 per person but the experience was invaluable. A must visit for friends seeking a nice evening with drinks and good food.
